Welcome to OAP 👋
When it comes to queer community, we’re not fucking around…
Orlando Advocacy Project is a grassroots non-profit that started because a butch lesbian wanted friends.
THE FULL “CIRCLE K” MOMENT
Sometimes a major moment of clarity can stem from a crashout in a gas station parking lot. That’s how Kristin, founder of OAP discovered the reason behind her pain – that she didn’t know any people like her to relate to.
In a world that increasingly isolates queer people, she took to social media for support.
Not only did she find people like her by originally establishing Orlando Butch Crew, but unknowingly attracted many through her vulnerability. With hundreds of people in a Discord later, a rock solid community was formed and the calling for a greater purpose began.
THE MISSION
OAP's strategy reflects on the transformative impact of the Stonewall Inn Riots on June 29, 1969, which marked a PIVOTAL moment for LGBTQIA2+ civil liberties. This strategy emphasizes unity among all queer, lesbian, gay trans, and gender nonconforming individuals, highlighting that COLLECTIVE ACTION is essential for achieving significant social change. We believe STRENGTH comes from NUMBERS, UNITY and COMMUNITY to drive progress and secure our freedoms as Queer individuals.
